Rev. James Edgar Penland
May 13, 1935-April 4, 2009
After many years of faithful ministry, James Edgar Penland went to be with his Lord on April 4, 2009. He was born on May 13, 1935 at Thomas, OK.
James began serving his Lord as Pastor at First Baptist Church, Watts, OK in 1955 where he married Arizona Grace Jones on Christmas Day the same year.
In later years of ministry, he was Pastor of Calvary Baptish Church in Hulbert, OK.
He and Arizona then served as SBC Home Missionaries in Lafayette, Indiana until serious health conditions required him to step down. After his health improved, James then Pastored Trinity Baptist Church in Keefton, OK afte which he was forced to retire permanently due to failing health.
James is preceded in death by his parents; Jems Wilson Penland and Izella Pearl Murray.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 53 years, Arizona Grace Penland, tow sons; Jimmy Penland of Collinsville, OK, and Tommy Penland of Muskogee, OK, brother; Charles Penland of San Antonio, TX, and sister; Phyllis Martin of Tulsa, OK, and three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all in Ft. Worth, TX. He is also survived by other relatives, and many friends also survive him.
Graveside servies will be held at Westville City Cemetery, Westville, OK, on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 11:00 am, under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
