Harvy Loyd McLeroy
March 18, 1925 - April 10, 2009
Harvy Loyd McLeroy was born March 18, 1925, in Handley, Texas to Thomas Everett and Mary Gertrude (Swackhammer) McLeroy. He passed away suddenly on April 10, 2009, at the age of 84, along with his wife, Nettie Lorene.
Loyd was married to Nettie Lorene Doty on October 11, 1945, in Grandberry, Texas and to their union was born three sons, Harvey L., Marcus and Cecil.
Loyd was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, serving with Bloody One during the Battle of the Bulge and receiving the following citations, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars, 2 Overseas Bars, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He was a mason and a member of VFW.
Loyd served as a former mayor of the city of Westville and worked as a truck driver and chicken farmer before his retirement. He was a member of the Assembly of God.
Preceding him in death were, his parents, brother, Eugene McLeroy, sister, Loretta Baylock, grandson, Terry Wayne McLeroy and great granddaughter, Mary Rachel Elsey.
His surviving family includes his children, Harvey L. and Deloris June McLeroy, Marcus and Freda Mae McLeroy, Cecil and Sharon Kay McLeroy, 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and many friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will held 1:00 p.m. April 14, 2008, at Westville City Cemetery with Rev. Bill Williams and Rev. Bobby Dobbs officiating. Burial is under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
