Virgie Lee (Robinson) Starr traveled to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. She was born May 16, 1930 in Ryker, Arkansas to Sherman and Pearl (Spears) Robinson.

She married the love of her life, Denton “Mack” Starr on July 1, 1949 and moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma. From this union, three children were born, Lyle, Patti and Lois.

After losing her mother and father at an early age, Virgie learned from those life experiences and dedicated herself to her own family and was determined to provide them with a better life. While raising her “3 Musketeers”, she attended Northeastern State University where she successfully earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education. She began her teaching career in the early 60s at Kentucky School. Her career continued with teaching at Cave Springs, Lincoln, Ark. and Siloam Springs, Ark. before retiring in 1992 after 30 years in the classroom.

Virgie loved life and was always on the go, thus earning her the “GO GRANNY GO” motto from her family. Her hobbies were reading, gardening, crocheting, crafting, sewing and spoiling grandchildren. She was active in many civic organizations: Adair County Historical Society where she worked on the Adair County history book and the KCS depot restoration project: Adair County Home Extension Group holding many positions; Adair County Genealogy Society, volunteering at the KCS depot and helping many people researching their family histories; Adair County Fair Board where she was one of the driving forces behind the construction and fundraising for the new fairground exhibit hall; Silver Haired Legislator, Goingsnake District, Red Hat Ladies, Nancy Ward Society, Friends of the Library, DAR, and instructor for 55 Alive driving classes. In addition to her organizational work, she loved to travel and has traveled across the United States and to Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, England, Germany, the Caribbean and many other places making friends along the way

She leaves behind her beloved children: Lyle Starr and wife Beverly of Stilwell, Patti VanTeylingen and husband John of Rifle, Colo., and Lois Jarvis and husband Michael of Verdigris. Her four grandsons, Keith Petree, and wife Shawna of Rifle, Colo., Scott Starr and wife Paula of Stilwell, Travis Starr and wife Nichole of Stilwell and William Galyean and wife April of Broken Arrow. Her six great-grandchildren, Jadyn Petree, Kenzie Starr, Rylan Petree, Keegan Starr, Marshall Starr and Walker Galyean. her extended VanTeylingen family of three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. a brother, Sherman Robinson and wife Tina of Gravette, Ark. and aunt Mardella Reeves of Huntsville, Ark. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was welcomed home by the family members who preceded her: husband Mack Starr, parents Sherman and Pearl Robinson, grandson Anthony Petree, and brother, Nolan Spears

Virgie described her life as wonderfully blessed. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Roberts/Reed- Culver Chapel, Stilwell, with Bro. Justin Heck officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery, Stilwell
