Evana Lois Spray went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 2, 2011 in Ash Flat, Arkansas at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 17 days. She was born in Flag, Arkansas on December 15, 1925 to Page Redwine and Laura Abigail (Smith) Rolen.
Evana moved with her family to Wewoka, Oklahoma at age 12 and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1944 as class valedictorian. She worked as a secretary for Standard Oil Company until she married Lawrence Turner Spray on June 30, 1950 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She was a devoted wife and mother who chose to stay home and raise her sons, then later worked as a legal assistant in her husband’s law practice preceding his death.
Evana was a longtime resident of Stilwell, Oklahoma. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Stilwell; was very active at the Senior Citizens Center writing their newspaper articles and making ceramics; she enjoyed attending writing class at the Public Library and was a dedicated High School and College sports fan. She was involved in many other community activities. Evana was loved by all who knew her.
Evana is survived by three sons and their spouses: Jim and Sonja Spray of Stilwell; John and Stephonie Spray of Evans, Georgia; Jay and Jackie Spray of Ash Flat, Arkansas and a brother, James D. Rolen and wife Helen of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Alyssa Huffman and husband James of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Brandy Spray of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Spencer Spray of Stilwell; Curry Spray of Springfield, Missouri; Jason Spray and wife Lea Ann of Franklin, Arkansas; Joshua Spray of Ash Flat, Arkansas; Janna Praught and husband Timothy of Okinawa, Japan; Joseph Spray and wife Lisa of Fordland, Missouri, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Evana was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Lawrence T. Spray, brothers: Ronald and Victor Rolen, sister: Mildred Rolen and an infant great-granddaughter: Charity Joy Spray.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Stilwell with Jason Spray, Bro. Mike Stanley and Bro. Roger Haney officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery.
