Lena Magdelene Scruggs was born December 22, 1921, in Adair County, Oklahoma to Wayne and Euphasine (Boyles) Brannon. She passed away March 22, 2011, at the Stilwell Nursing Home at the age of 89 years and three months.
In April of 1936, Lena was married to Henry Latta in Stilwell, Oklahoma. Lena and Henry made their home in Stilwell, where they raised their family of five children, John, Jack, Lola, Letha and Sue. After Henry’s passing, Lena later married Robert Scruggs in Denison, Texas on September 22, 1962.
She worked at the Stilwell Nursing Home as Director of Housekeeping for many years until her retirement. Lena enjoyed gardening, yard work and other outside activities.
Those who preceded her in death include, her parents, Wayne and Euphasine Brannon, both husbands, Henry Latta and Robert Scruggs, three brothers, Foss Brannon, Edgar Brannon and Carlis Brannon, four sisters, Lela O’Neal, Mamie Elvington, Ruby Elvington and Zelma Vick and one great grandchild, Carson Lynn Whatley.
She leaves behind a loving family which includes, her children, John Latta and wife, Joyce, Jack Latta and wife, Fredna, Lola Carson Bibb, Letha Mathews Terrell and husband, Sam, Sue Panter and husband, Jim, all of Stilwell; one sister, Coeta Vick, of Caruthers, CA, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Kevin Spurlock officiating. Interment will follow at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
