Mamie Lou Ree Munson, daughter of Albert and Demia Tyra was born July 21, 1926 in Burkburnett, Texas. She passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the age of 85 at Houston House in Houston, MO.
When Mamie was young, her family moved in a horse drawn wagon to settle in Custer County, OK. In 1944, she met and fell in love with a sailor, John Rolland Munson and they were married on March 10. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Mamie had a fulfilling life as a pastor’s wife, registered nurse, mother and grandmother. She loved sewing, quilting, spending time in her flower or vegetable garden, decorating cakes, and helping others in any way she could.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and a daughter, Bertie Roberts.
She is survived by her husband, Reverend John Munson of Houston, MO; three sons, John and wife Phyllis of Mooresville, NC, Bill and wife Loral of Muskogee, OK, Don and wife Peggy of Houston, MO; nine grandchildren Betty Beckham, Charles Powell and Robert Powell of Charleston, SC area, Jennifer Hawkins of Tahlequah, OK, Lee Munson of Muskogee, OK, Rusty Munson and Ryan Munson of Houston, MO, Ricky Roberts of Stilwell, OK, and Shelly Turtle of Westville, OK; 16 great grand children; a son-in-law, George Roberts of Stilwell, OK, a sister-in-law, Shirley Tyra Graumann of Sapulpa, OK and several nieces and nephews.
For the past 6 years, Mamie was loved and respected by the staff of Houston House. She was an active participant in the daily life of Houston House. Their constant care for her is deeply appreciated and a blessing to her family.
Memorial Service: Saturday, March 24, 2:00 p.m., Faith Fellowship, Houston, MO Graveside Service: Monday, March 26, 2:00 p.m., Stilwell City Cemetery, Stilwell, OK Visitation: Sunday afternoon, March 25, Monday, March 26 before graveside service at Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to Hospice of Care, Texas County Memorial Hospital, 1333 S. Sam Houston Blvd., Houston, MO 65483 or Houston House Activities Department, 1100 Industrial Drive., Houston, MO 65483.
