Elmer Peter Treib, the son of Adam and Catharina (Mayer) Treib, was born July 26, 1942, in Mott, North Dakota, the youngest of ten children. He went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2011, in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years, 3 months, and 24 days.

Elmer was married to Sharon Kay Sheppard on March 26, 1983, at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War with a specialty as a construction machine operator. He received several medals, badges, and commendations and held national placement with his marksmanship.

El was a man of many talents, and his work history utilized those varying talents, but he was exceptionally gifted with a mechanical aptitude. El spent the last 20 years as a U.S. postal contractor; of course, he maintained his own trucks. His daughter, Cassondra, fondly remembers the cars he used to build; and two special young men in his life, Derek and Dylan Wishon, can attest to how he kept his equipment faithfully and dutifully maintained.

El was a charter member of Victory Southern Baptist Church and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Arkansas chapter. He loved reading, watching The History and Discovery channels, pheasant hunting in his home town, and spending quality time with his family and friends. El was a caregiver at heart, and he also loved and cared very well for all his animals, especially his pet dogs and cats.

As a younger man, El enjoyed motocross and stockcar racing then gave way to RV traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Catharina Treib; and six siblings: John Treib, Peter Treib, Nick Treib, Albert Treib, Catherine Hannah, and Anna Stufflebeam.

El leaves behind a loving family which includes his wife, Sharon Treib, of the home; daughter, Cassondra Marie Treib, of Bentonville, Arkansas; two brothers, Adam "Sam" Treib and wife, Darlene, of Orofino, Idaho, and William Treib, of Eldorado Springs, Missouri; sister, Edna Hannah and husband, Earl, of Venice, Florida; grandchildren, Tyler Treib, currently serving in the U.S. Army being deployed to Bogota, Columbia, and Whitney Treib, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Gloria Treib, of Rogers, Arkansas; and the mother of his daughter, Sondra Treib, of Rogers, Arkansas. A myriad of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Hart Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Varble and Rev. Curtis Dawson officiating. Interment will follow at Spade Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home, Stilwell, Oklahoma.
