Funeral services for Houston Byrd, age 64, were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Vinnus Hilderbrand officiating. Interment followed at Sands Cemetery in Chewey under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.

Houston Lewis Byrd, the son of Jess Byrd and Sallie (Scott) Hogshooter, was born April 21, 1945, in Watts, Oklahoma and departed this life January 25, 2010, at his home in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 64.

Houston was married to Betsy Wilson who preceded him in death. He worked for Baird's Farm for over 25 years. Houston was a fun loving person who enjoyed telling jokes and spending time with his family and friends.

Those who preceded him in death include his parents, his wife, Betsy Byrd, three brothers, Jess Fishinghawk, Lester Bird and Thomas Fishinghawk, two sisters, Helen and Lillie Bird, one infant brother and one infant sister.

His surviving family includes one son, Michael Lee Byrd and wife, Elvina, of Ponca City, OK; two daughters, Henrietta Christie and husband, Michael, of Stilwell, Crystal Mullen and husband, Wes, of Westville; one brother, Robert Hogshooter, of Stilwell; three sisters, Sarah Bird Hirst, Rebecca Bird Patton, Susie Thompson and husband, Roy, all of Stilwell; seven grandchildren and a special friend, Brenda Adair, of Stilwell.
