Erval William Kindle
February 6, 1923 - May 9, 2006
Funeral services for Erval William Kindle, age 83, were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006, at the Mountain View Baptist Church in Westville, with Rev. Larry Kindle officiating. Interment followed at Proctor Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home
Erval William Kindle was born in Tulsa, on February 6, 1923. He was the oldest of eleven children to his parents, Willie (Bill) Kindle and Mable Ann (Galyean) Kindle.
He departed this life on May 9, 2006 in Tahlequah at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 3 days.
He lived most of his childhood and youth years in the communities of Proctor and Clearfork.
At the age of 20 and during World War II, Erval enlisted in the United States Army and served as Surgical Technician with the 36th Field Hospital attached primarily to the 77th Division. He served in the Pacific Theater (Marshall Islands, Guam, Philippine Islands, Ie Shima and Okinawa) as surgical Technician and gave blood plasma, changed dressings, cleansed wounds and other first aid treatment to patients on the front lines. He holds the Meritorious Unit award, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Five Bronze Stars.
On May 19, 1946, he married the love of his life, Mary Joyce Proctor. They moved to the Chance Community in 1950, where he lived for 50 years in the home Erval helped build from an old mess hall he bought from Camp Gruber.
He was a hard worker and enjoyed farming, his cattle and hunting. He loved his family but, most of all, he loved the Lord. He has accepted Christ as his Savior and talked often in later days of going home to be with the Lord. Erval will be missed by all.
Erval is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mable Kindle, his brother, Junior and his sister, Zella Jo Fowler.
Erval is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Joyce of the home; one daughter, Esther Jean Skipper of Tahlequah; one son, Leland Wayne and wife Anita of Tahlequah; two grandsons, Bart Lee Skipper and Doyle Lee Kindle both of Tahlequah; three brothers and five sisters, Walter and wife Myrtle of Westville; Donald Elmo and wife May of Claremore, Jim and wife Donna of Tulsa, Juanita Guthrie and husband L.D. of Clovis, CA, Patsy Murray and husband Ed of Lebanon, OR, Billie Blondell Howard of Westville, Betty Ann Rhine of Milwaukee, OR and Carolyn Sue Neale of Westville; one beloved sister-in-law, Wanda Long and husband Gene of Westville; one aunt, Virginia Lee Whitmire of Proctor and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
