Melvin Eugene Smith, 78, of Springdale, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in Springdale.

He was born August 21, 1932 at York, Nebraska, the son of Robert B. and Edna Hickmon Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Smith; two brothers, Delbert Smith & Lee Roy Smith and a sister Carolyn Rector.

He was a retired plumber for Johnson Plumbing. He was a member of Johnson Church of Christ where he served as a deacon until his death. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Oma Leta Williams Smith Two daughters: Rita Harriman & her husband Joe of Springdale Renee Basinger & her husband Tom of Springdale A sister: Roberta Kincaid of Stilwell, OK His mother-in-law: Dewey Keeter of Farmington Five grandchildren: Julie Marvin & her husband Michael Brad Harriman & his wife Jessica Randall Harriman & his wife Lindsay Cole Basinger Hannah Basinger Five great-grandchildren: Anna Claire Marvin Trey Marvin Reese Harriman Eli Harriman Mary Ella Harriman Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, October 29 at the Johnson Church of Christ, under the direction of Moores Chapel. Officiating will be Larry Culbreath. Burial will be Piney Cemetery, near Westville, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Moores Chapel. Memorials may be made to: Honduran Childrens Education Fund c/o Johnson Church of Christ 5602 Elmore St. Springdale, AR 72762
