Jasper Swake, 88, passed away Tuesday evening at the Hillcrest Kaiser Specialty Hospital in Tulsa.
He was born on March 11, 1917, in Christie, the son of Lawyer Swake and Charlotte (Bell) Swake.
He graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1938. He married Willadean Brannon on Jan. 7, 1984.
Jasper worked with the cement mason's union #690 in Tulsa. He was initiated into the Westville Masonic Lodge #186 and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason.
Jasper enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a second Chief of the Cherokee Elders in 1996. Jasper helped establish the Rainbow House in Locust Grove which provides clothing and furniture free of charge to needy families.
A kind and generous man who dearly loved his family and will be greatly missed by all the many lives he has touched.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23 in the Old Green Baptist Church in Westville with Reverend Chester Crittenden officiating. Interment followed in the Old Green Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Sequoiah Price, Brian Price, Charles Burrow, Cory Burrow, Charles Price and Tim Falling with William Pearce, Ron Sharp, Eldon Price, John Roach, Sam Sanders and Don Ingram serving as Honorary Casketbearers. Arrangements were under the direction of Shipman's Jim Green Funeral Home of Pryor.
Jasper is survived by his wife, Willadean of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Pearce of Tulsa and Dorothy June Profumo of Stilwell; one son, Charles Swake; four grandchildren. Starr Falling, William Pearce, Justin Swake, Ron Sharp; six great grandchildren, Ellen Falling, Jesse Falling, Morgan, Trey and Mallory Pearce, Ron Sharp Jr.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louisa (Clifton) Swake; his parents, three brothers, Ralph "Blue", Robert and infant brother, Archie Swake; one sister, Helen (Swake) Fields; one granddaughter. Coo-Y-Yah Estel Pearce.
