Irene Fern Tate, daughter of Christopher Charles and Nellie Mae Coats, was born on August 12, 1919 in Harrison, Arkansas and departed this life to be with our Lord on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Irene married the love of her life, Herbert J. Tate on May 9, 1940 and to this union two children were born, Stephen and Dorthy. She was a homemaker who enjoyed the duties that followed her role as a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Irene loved to cook. She was a cook at Watts Schools for 10 years. For Irene, spending time with her family was her passion and joy. She enjoyed gardening and working with her hands. She was a faithful member of Old Baptist Mission Church as long as her health permitted.

 Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Herbert J. Tate, and her son: Stephen Leroy Tate.

Irene is survived by her daughter: Dorthy May Hester and husband Bentz of Westville, OK, her grandchildren: Theresa Hopton and husband Allen of Westville, OK, Darla Williams and husband Ricky of Rogers, AR, Laverna Helm and husband Chuck of Westville, OK, Christopher Tate and wife Kathlyn of Springdale, AR, Cherilyn Kelly and husband Casey of Siloam Springs, AR, her daughter-in-law: Ginger Mc Cuistion of Springdale, AR, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Old Baptist Mission Church with Bro. Ricky Williams officiating.

Interment followed at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
