September 4, 1933 - March 9, 2007
Bartow Hix, passed on March 9, 2007 in Muskogee, OK with loved ones by his side at the age of 73.
He was born on September 4, 1933 in Tahlequah to Ott and Lillian Hix.
On May 14, 1955, he married Wanda Lea Hastings and to this union 4 children were born; Michael, Gail, Karen and Charles.
They resided on the Illinois River for the past 50 years; he retired from the Tate Ranch in September 1995 where he worked for over 40 years.
He has since spent the last several years spending time with his grandchildren
Bartow was a Deacon at Combs Baptist Church where he also served as Sunday School Superintendant for over 30 years. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association and served on the Cherokee County Farm Bureau board for over 35 years.
When he wasn't helping his friends or neighbors, he enjoyed the outdoors. He loved farm life and was a master gardener who did not hesitate to share his crop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother; Joe Hix, and 1 grandson; Joshua Hix.
He is survived by a very loving family that includes, his wife of over 51 years; Wanda Hix of the home in Proctor, OK, 2 sons; Michael Hix and wife Cheryl of Mounds, OK, Charles "Chuck" Hix of Westville, OK, 2 daughters; Gail Gates and husband Joe, Karen Bigby and husband Mark all of Tahlequah, OK, 7 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, 3 brothers; Bob Hix and wife Reba, Tom Hix and wife Laura, Gary Hix and wife Mary all of Tahlequah, OK, 2 sisters; Jackie Burnett of Tahlequah, OK, Bernice Smith and husband Topsy of Groveland, CA, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, 2007 in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Bro. Douglas Thompson officiating.
Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
