Happy Jack was born on April 13, 1936 in Blackgum Community north of Vian, OK to John Franklin and Dola Mae (Davis) Wright. He died peacefully at his home March 2, 2013 where he had lived and raised his family for 52 years.
He was a retired construction worker and had helped build highways and bridges in and around Hugo and Lawton, Oklahoma. He worked on the building of the Port of Catoosa and was construction foreman at OG&E Power Plant and Fort Howard in Muskogee, OK. He farmed and raised strawberries for several years and especially enjoyed his Black Angus cattle.
Jack had great respect and love for both his parents, sisters and brothers. He loved his children and worked hard his whole life to provide for them and their welfare. In the last few weeks of his life, he told his children, “I feel I have had a very good and happy life.” He appreciated his neighbors and enjoyed a good cup of coffee with many a friend. He never met a stranger.
Survivors include his children, Vicky and husband Larry Lewis of Stilwell, OK, Robert Wright of Tahlequah, OK, and Renee Wright of Stilwell, OK; six grandchildren; Holly Wright of Tahlequah, OK., Justin Wright and wife Jaime of Tahlequah, OK., Falon Wright of Stilwell, OK., Cydney Wright of Stilwell, OK., Courtney Lewis Creel and husband Michael of Tahlequah, OK., and David Lewis of Stilwell, OK., seven great grandchildren, Cadence, Hunter, Jael, Chloe, Zoey, Logan and Connor; three sisters, Frankie Myher and husband Lawrence of Roland, OK., Colene Burnett and husband Cliff of Lavaca, AR., and Lavana Mattingley of Wichita, KS., one brother;, Jim Wright and wife Kathie of Wichita, Ks., and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents; one son, David Franklin Wright; four sisters, Mattie Shoemaker, Arlene Sutton, Barbara Weber and Lenora Ellis; and two brothers, John Wright and Bill Wright.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Larry Lewis officiating. Interment followed at Freewater Cemetery.
