Graveside services for Cecil Burgess were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Freewater Cemetery with Pastor Hubert Sponsler and Leonard Poor officiating. Final arrangements were under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
Cecil Junior Burgess was born November 28, 1934, in Adair County, Oklahoma, the son of John Wilson Burgess and Stella May (Deason) Burgess. Cecil worked in the oil fields as a rig operator and retired from Farmers Coop after many years of service. He enjoyed gardening and was considered a “Mr. Fix-It” by friends and family who depended on his expertise. Cecil departed this life on June 6, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Stilwell at the age of 74.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Burgess, one brother, Troy Burgess and one sister, Ruby Burgess.
He leaves behind a loving family which includes, one son, Leroy Burgess, of Blackwell, OK; one daughter, Diann Holman, of Blackwell, OK; one brother, Earl Burgess, of Stilwell; one sister, Evie Burgess, of Stilwell; five grandchildren, Dustin Holman, Devin Courtney, Drew Holman, Casey Burgess and Clay Burgess, and one great granddaughter, Halleigh Courtney.
