Arthur "Art" Powell
February 1, 1931-September 27, 2007
Arthur "Art" Powell was born February 1, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Joseph Arthur Powell and Gladys Ophia (Lancaster) Powell.
He went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 26, days.
Art was married to Joyce Eagleton on September 27, 1965 in Stilwell, Oklahoma.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict and receiving an honorable discharge on February 27, 1952.
Art graduated from Brooke Army Medical Center on December 17, 1948. In 1962, he moved to Stilwell and began his own business, Powell Heating and Cooling.
Art shared his knowledge of the business by training students at the Indian Capital Vo-Tech from 1972-1974.
In 1985, he opened Straight Shooters Supply and continued this business until 1990. He became a Reserve Deputy Sheriff assisting Adair County Sheriff's Department after completing CLEET training in 1998, Art was also a Mason.
His relationship with God was personal rather than public, and in his later years, he stayed close to his home and wife of 42 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two sons, Arthur Waine Powell and Jerry Lee Powell.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce Powell of the home, three children; Patty English of Florida, Kenny Powell and Charity Gail Pairolero of Mississippi, five grandchildren, three great granchildren, two daughter-in-law; Sherry Powell Anderson of Stilwell and Linda Mims of Florida, two sisters; Ama Sue Burnett of Stilwell and Jeanette Beard of Moore, OK, a close cousin John H. Jones of Stilwell and a host of friends an loved ones.
Graveside services were held Monday, October 1, 2007 at Ewing Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Jimmie Varnell and Bro. Glen Hopkins officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
