Johnny Lee Mayfield
September 16, 1929-April 11, 2008
Johnny Lee Mayfield also known as (J.L. and Jake) son of Archie Andrew and Alpha Mae (Tucker) Mayfield was born September 16, 1929 in Depew, Oklahoma and departed this life to be with our Lord on April 11, 2008 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas at the age of 78 years, 6 moths and 25 days.
Johnny worked as a security guard for many years. He married Lois Nadean Convirs on May 2, 1950 and to this union 3 children were born; Sam, Lawanda and Debbie.
A son, Husband, Dad, Grandfather "Gramps" and Brother, he was also know as "Pop". He loved his family, friends and almost anyone who walked through his front door. He was truly a gift from God.
Every occasion, Christmas, Thanksgiving or just a Family gathering, his voice could be heard singing songs about the Lord. He loved Southern Gospel Music and Bluegrass. In fact he had an opportunity to be in Baxter Stamps Quartet.
He had a sweet spot for the love of his life, Nadean also known to many as "Granny" and they spent everday happy together just like the first day they met.
His hand shake was a contract, and he always knew the words to say when needed advice about life. He was a rock and pillar in his community. He called Dialysis a job that didn't pay very good, it was a blood sucking place where he would go to get his oil changed he would say. He also was a very avid Nascar fan who loved watching his favorite driver #24 Jeff Gordon.
He would help all of the time at Dialysis, he was our Daddy that was taken too soon. He was our friend, our life, he was a cut-up, he would stick out his teeth at everyone and would laugh even though in pain. He will truly be missed, but we will be reunited again with him someday. We will love you Pop for infinity.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter; Lawanda Janay Clinton, brothers; Billy, Bobby, Jimmy and Andy Mayfield, sisters; Faye Puvis, Lottie Johnson, Bertha Westfall, Artie Davis, Ruby Holderfield, Mildred Chandler and Ruth Brown.
He is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife of nearly 58 years, Lois Nadean Mayfield, children; Samuel Lee Mayfield and wife Jesse of Stilwell, OK, Debbie Rogers and husband Thomas also of Stilwell, OK., special daughter; Judy Allinson of Oklahoma, grandchildren; Brian Rogers, Angela McMurtrey, Stephanie West, Trisha Barker, Ali Mayfield, Michael Barker all of Stilwell, OK., Stacie Mayfield of Roland, OK, Jonathan Mayfield of Oakdale, CA, April Bianchi, Crystal Allison of North Carolina and Ben Allison of Oklahoma, and 8 Great Grandchildren, brothers; Jack Mayfield of Riverbank, CA, Leon Mayfield of Nevada, Charles Ray Mayfield of Nevada, sisters; Letha Stiner of Riverbank, CA, Janie Blaylock of Springdale, AR. Lynita Faulkenberry of Greenwood, AR, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and may friends also survive him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday April 17, 2008 at 2:00 P.m. in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Rev. Paul Etter officiating.
Interment will follow in the Ewing Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culve Funeal Home.
