James M. Mathews was born September 10, 1937 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Rafe N. Mathews and Winnie E. (Burnett) Mathews. He departed this life on December 18, 2017 at the age of 80.

James graduated from Stilwell High School in 1957. He married the love of his life Lola L. Stephenson in September of 1958. He was a carpenter, then went to work for Ozarks Electric in 1963 and worked there until 1985. then went to driving a bus for Stilwell Schools. His favorite part of driving the bus was the children. He loved children and animals. He enjoyed working with his cows. His favorite animal was their house dog Daisy. He enjoyed helping others. He became a Deacon for the Baptist Churches in August of 1976 until he departed this life.

He was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, Nath Mathews.

He is survived by his wife Lola of the home, his son James Stevie and wife Gina of Stilwell and one daughter, Judy of Stilwell, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, one brother, Rafe Junior and his wife Beverly of Welling, one sister, Pam Lord and husband Jim of Grove and a special adopted daughter he took under his wings, Ann Lillich,. also, a host of other family members.

Funeral services were held Friday December 22, 2017 at Roberts Funeral home. He was laid to rest at Ewing Chapel.
