Joe Byron Lary

Joe Byron Lary, the son of Calvin Lary, Sr. and Ida May (Gardner) Lary, was born October 10, 1955, at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He passed from this life on March 23, 2015, at the OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 59.

Joe lived in Sallisaw, Oklahoma from 1971 to 1977 and graduated from Sallisaw High School and later moved to Stilwell where he made his home until the present.

Joe was an accomplished artist who had a special talent for caricatures and wildlife portraits and other various media including watercolors, charcoal, pen and oil paintings. He enjoyed taking care of his mother, which included driving her to numerous appointments and upon his father’s death in 1992, he became her sole caregiver. Joe was actively giving care to many elderly neighbors by providing their transportation as well.

He is preceded in death by his father, Calvin Lary, Sr. and his grandparents, Sid and Thelma Gardner, Calvin Lee and Hazel Lary.

He leaves behind, his mother, Ida May Lary, of Stilwell; brothers, Crawford Lee Lary and wife, Regina, of Broken Arrow, OK and Calvin Lary, Jr. of Muskogee, OK. He is also survived by three nieces, one nephew and one great nephew.

Graveside services were held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Ewing Chapel Cemetery with Bo Wolfe officiating. Final arrangements were entrusted to the care of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
