Jayne Swepston
November 16, 1920 - March 15, 2009
Jayne Swepston was born November 16, 1920, in Stilwell, Oklahoma to George Clinton and Minnie (Corn) Clinton. She passed from this life March 15, 2009, in Independence, Kansas at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 29 days.
On October 18, 1940, Jayne was married to Rufus Lee Swepston. Jayne worked alongside her husband, building fences and raising cattle. She loved to quilt and was a wonderful cook who was noted for her amazing turkey and dressing, cinnamon rolls and strawberry shortcake. Jayne worked as a cook for several years at Memorial Hospital. As a loving grandmother, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life. She was a caring person and always looked after her neighbors. She lived most of her life in the Stilwell area and was a member of the First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R.L. “Fats” Swepston, one brother, Lace Clinton, three sisters, Edith Blatcher, Alice Roberts and Georgia Eagleton, son, James Bryl and one son-in-law, Mike Dumler.
Her surviving family includes three children, Bob Swepston, of Stilwell, Barbara Bushnell and husband, Bruce, and Brenda Dumler, all of Independence, KS; ten grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Kevin Spurlock and Jack Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Downing Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
