Cecil Ray Merriott, son of Charles and Floy (Young) Merriott was born June 27, 1931 in Hot Springs, AR and then moved to Stilwell in 1935.
He departed this life to be with our Lord on July 7, 2007 in Stilwell, OK at the age of 76 years and 10 days.
Ray married Elnora Louise (Cotton) Johnson in 1948 and to this union 2 daughters were born, Gail Thackeray and Connie Pettigrew.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Elnora Louise (Cotton)Merriott, one daughter; Gail and Grandson, Tommy Thackeray, 2 brothers; Morris and Eugene Merriott.
He was a welding shop foreman at Mustang Tractor and Equipment in Houston, Texas approximately 20 years ago. After moving to Stilwell, he worked as a Heavy Equipment operator.
On March 29, 1975, Ray married Ola Hendrix. They were members of Rock Springs Baptish Church where he was a deacon at the time of his death.
Ray is survived by his wife, Ola of 32 years, one daugher; Connie Pettigrew and husband Larry, one step-son; Darrell Hendrix and wife Martha, one step-daughter; Debbie Bennett and husband Charles all of Stilwell OK, one brother; J.C. Merriott of Stilwell, OK, one cousin; Marcus Johnson and wife Caroline of Evansville, AR, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive him.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Bro. Donnie Crittenden and Bro. Rick Satterthwaite officiating.
Interment followed in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
