Thomas Calvin Woods - Stilwell Democrat Journal - August 23, 1956
Thomas Calvin Woods, 95, prominent Adair county resident, died Wednesday, August 15, at his rural home near Westville, following a recent stroke. He was born December 17, 1860 near Batesville, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Woods. [William Woods & Emeline Cooper Woods]
Funeral services were conducted from the Roberts Funeral Chapel Friday at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Carl Foster, pastor of the Westville Baptist church, officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. George Murray, Mrs. Anna Parker, Isom Wright, and Cletis Odle, with Mrs. John Bunnell at the piano sang, "Precious Memories," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "We'll Never Grown Old."
Burial was in the Baptist Mission cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral home with the grandsons, Owen Buffington, Ernest Buffington, J. C. Morris, Kenneth Morris, Jerome Marshall, Terry Reed, Gene Russell and Burlan Woods, serving as pallbearers. Those in charge of the flowers were Judy Morris, Faynell Bowles, Evelyn Morris, Fay Gene Buffington, Ann Lein Bowles and Wanda Morris, all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Woods came to Westville in 1883 [Dec. 25, 1885] and has resided here since that time. He is the father of Tom Woods, widely known stockman, and grandfather of Owen Buffington, one of the Adair County commissioners.
Survivors include five daughters; Mrs. Stella Langley, Mrs. Nellie Tenant, Mrs. Kate Harmon, Mrs. Minnie Russell, and Mrs. Elsie Reed, all of Westville; five sons, Jim, Tom, Forrest, Lloyd and Oliver, all of Westville; 25 grandchildren 35 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Out of town relatives and friends that attended Mr. Calvin Woods funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kelley, Muskogee; Mrs. Onetia Heibert, Miami; Mrs. Maggie Thomas, Prairie Grove, Arkansas; Miss Frankie MdGee, Prairie Grove; Mrs. Artel Thomas, Fayetteville, Arkansas; Rev. and Mrs. McMormack, Stilwell; Mrs. Stevenson Stilwell; Mrs. Bula Fay Bradford, Stilwell; Mrs. Eulan Gibson, Tahlequah; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Proctor and daughters, Proctor; Tommy Griffin, Proctor; Gene Russell, Pittsburg, Kansas; Mrs. Callie Savage, San Bernandino, California, Mrs. Ida Baker, Redlands, California, Mrs. Wanda May Fisher, Redlands, California, and Mr. and Mrs. O.T. Johnson of Maysville, Oklahoma, arrived one day too late for the funeral. They are nieces of the late Cal Woods and have been visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Tennant and others.
