Frances Lena Juhl Rye was born to Fred H.L. Juhl and Anna Marie (Muense) Juhl on May 18, 1921, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. She passed from this life on February 5, 2011, after reaching the age of 89.
Frances worked at the Stuttgart Army Air Force Base (SAAB) as clerk-typist from 1943-1946. She then transferred to Veterans Administration Financial as clerk-typist, where she met Lenard Rye.
Frances was married to Lenard on August 9, 1951, in Little Rock, AR. The family moved from Hensley, AR to New River, Arizona. After 7 years in Arizona, they moved to a 5 acre farm off Highway 62 in Westville, Oklahoma in 1964. Frances was a faithful member of Christie Southern Baptist Church, serving as the church clerk for 29 years and 10 years as the Sunday School Secretary as well as many summers helping in Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed planting gardens and canning, working in her many flower beds and crocheting. She loved hummingbirds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard, in December 1984; two sons, Eric Ivan Rye, age 30 in 1976 and Richard Leon Rye, age 55 in 2009; her parents; two brothers, Howard, of Stuttgart, AR and Harold, of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Mildred Engler, of Brinkley, AR and Ella Juhl, of Little Rock, AR.
She is survived by nine children, Joyce Mantzouranis, of Portland, Oregon, Ray Rye, of Pawhuska, OK, Ralph Rye and wife, Patsy, of Elkins, Arkansas, Donna Rye, of Springfield, Missouri, Debra Kinzer and husband, Cal, of Beggs, Oklahoma, Donald Rye and wife, Nora, of Copperas Cover, Texas, Ronald Rye and wife, Martha, of Rogers, Arkansas, Carol Watson, of Westville and Darrell Rye and wife, Leslie, of Montezuma, Georgia, and daughter-in-law, Christine Rye, of Hope Mills, North Carolina; 29 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were arranged through the Hart Funeral Home and will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Christie Southern Baptist Church, in Christie, Oklahoma with Pastor Bill Matthews officiating.
Pallbearers are her sons, Donald, Ronald, Darrel, Ray, Ralph and son-in-law, Cal Kinzer.
Honorary pallbearers are Shane and Roman Watson and Brandon Rye.
Interment will be at Old Baptist Mission Cemetery, next to her husband, Lenard and son, Leon.
