Age 34-July 1926
Bert Morris, age 34 years, a widely known and highly respected young man of this county, died at his home near Watts [at Ballard] last Friday evening after an illness of a few days with blood poisoning.
Mr. Morris was born and raised in Adair County [Going Snake District, Cherokee Nation], and for the past several years has been one of the leading auctioneers of this part of the state. He was a very fine specimen of a man physically and his death after only a few days illness was a great shock to his many friends and acquaintances.
The body was laid to rest in the Baptist Mission Cemetery Saturday afternoon, the funeral was conducted by Rev. Phillips of Westville, and one of the largest processions perhaps ever gathered in the county was present to pay their respects to the deceased.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his father and mother [John B. and Fannie Cleveland Morris], wife [Kate Woods Morris], five children [J.C., Melvin, Lloyd, Floyd and Kenneth], two brothers [Fred and Clyde], three sisters [ four= Sadie Bagby, Kate Costen, Frankie Phillips and Tince Gregory], and a large host of friends.
