Mary Elva (Jones) Chadwell
January 21, 1910 - May 28, 2007
Chadwell, Mary Elva (Jones) left these earthly cares to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, May 28, 2007.
Born January 21, 1910 at Summers, Arkansas to Thomas Arthur and Mary Frances (Barber) Jones.
She graduated from high school at Cane Hill, AR, and attended college at Fayetteville, AR and Tahlequah, OK. In 1943 she began teaching all grades in a one-room schoolhouse in Adair County, OK. From early childhood Mary loved poetry and could recite from memory many beautiful poems. Mary moved to Oklahoma City, OK in 1952 and became secretary at Capitol Hill Sr. High School until her retirement in 1974. Mary was a member of Okla. City Assoc. of Educ. Secretaries, a life member of the Okla. Assoc of Educ. Sec. and the National Assoc. of Educ. Office Professionals.
She was a long time member of S. Lindsay Baptish Church, the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. The young at Heart, and Jolly Elders.
She married Harvey Chadwell in 1933, and they spent 49 years together until his death in 1982. Preceded in death by her parents, 3 children, Marilyn B., Wenzell L. and Cecil D. Chadwell, 10 siblings; Alice Campbell, Anna Chadwell, Ethel Freedle, Ruth Freedle, John, Samuel, Theadore, and McKinney Jones, also a set of twin boys, one who died at birth, the other, Thomas died at 6 months.
Mary is survived by 4 daughters; Janell Brown, Twila Howard, Elzene Dyer, and Judy Lay, and by 2 sons; Harvey G. and Michael L. Chadwell, 3 siblings, Bertha Randolph, James and Forrest Jones, fourteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mary was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and her family. Services to celebrate her life will be Thurday at South Lindsay Baptist Church.
Burial will be Thursday at Baptist Mission Cemetery in Westville, OK., directed by Vondel Smith Mortuary, 6934 S. Western OKC, OK 73139
