Frances Eleanor Morris Buffington
January 9th, 1854-December 12, 1928
Frances Eleanor Morris, daughter of Isaac and Frances Morris, was born in Cherokee County, Georgia on January 9th, 1854, was converted and joined the Univeralist Church at the age of 15 and came to Indian Territory with her parents at the age of 17. She was married to John D. Buffington February 2, 1876. To this union were born 12 children, 7 of whom died in infancy. Mr. Buffington died in October 1896 leaving his widow with 5 children, all of whom she reared to maturity except one daughter who died in 1900 at the age of 13.
Mrs. Buffington was a woman of irreproachable character and sterling worth, always ready and willing to minister to the sick, the poor and the needy, and was loved by all who knew her. She departed this life December 12, 1928 at the home of her son, Grover Buffington, leaving one daughter, Mrs. J. T. Phillips of Chelsea, Oklahoma, two sons, Grover and Jay, both of Westville and one brother, Bud Morris and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her death. The oldest daughter, Mrs. Fred Couch, preceded her mother to the "world beyond" four months and four days.
